Rediscover the portrait of a forgotten craftsman in Sapa

After hearing the stories of the blacksmith's son, we set out to rediscover the portrait of a forgotten craftsman in Sapa. The trip aimed to reconstruct and visualize  the traditional H'mong forge.

This work is not only a tribute to indigenous knowledge, but also a personal story of Giang A Cua. The story conveys concerns and hopes for his culture and people’s traditional farming tools.

As a result, the project took part at the "Spring of Life" exhibition which focused on traditional H'mong smithery. The research was a collaboration of the Center for Studies of Culture  and Economics and Climate (iSEE), funded by Irish Aids back in 2018.
